Blacklist question using WorldClient/WebMail

  • I was trying to help one of my users block some spam.

Reviewing the messages, I add them to the blacklist.  Then move the message out to a spam folder for submission to the system.

However, several of the messages have appeared again and when I select to add to blacklist, it says the contact is already added.

Is there something else I need to do to make it actually blacklist the messages?

  • Which blacklist are you adding the entry to?

If you are adding them to the Spam filters blocked senders list found here, https://help.mdaemon.com/mdaemon/en/sf_black_list.html...

Make sure the value being added is consistent between messages.  If you add the envelope from value, it may be changing for bulk mail.

Is the spamfilter applying the block list rule?  If it is, what score is being added for the rule?

If you are adding them to the users blocked senders contact list...

Make sure the box for "Use personal contacts, allowed senders, and blocked senders" is checked.

    https://help.mdaemon.com/mdaemon/en/sf_white_list_auto.html

And again for the account here:

    https://help.mdaemon.com/mdaemon/en/ae_white-list.html

If you are still having issues, the message headers and inbound smtp log that show the message being received as well as the routing log that shows the message being processed from the inbound queue to the local queue and then to the mailbox would be helpful.  We will be looking for the value in the From header, the value passed for the MAIL FROM command of the inbound SMTP session.  We also need to know the exact values that were added to the blacklist and which black list they were added to.

  • @Arron

This is how I was selecting spam senders for his blacklist.  I assume that they are an exact match if it says the contact has already been added.

It appears to be using the 100 / 100 defaults for white / black list matches.

"Use personal contacts, allowed senders, and blocked senders" Under the Account Settings--> White List is checked.

When I get another duplicate I will try and send that part of the log file.

  • It sounds like the value of the From header as added to the block list, but the From header is not being checked.

When you are able to post logs, please also let us know what version of MDaemon you are using.

  • I'm using 20.0.7

  • I'm getting some results in the Bad Message queue, it says the reason is that the e-mail address matched the receipient's blacklist.  So something I checked from your recommendations must have done the trick!  Thanks!

  • Great! Thanks for letting us know.
