What version of MDaemon are you using?
Is webmail running via IIS or its own webserver?
What theme is being used?
Are all users having this issue or just some?
Does this occur with any settings the user changes or just some?
When a user changes their settings are the changes saved to their User.ini file in the WC directory of their mailbox?
Does the browser's console show any errors when saving the settings?
If the settings are not saved, is the file marked as read only?
If you run process monitor on the server while a user is saving the settings, does it show any errors reading or writing the user.ini file?
Is their free space on the hard drive where the mailbox is stored?

Hi Arron,
Here are the answers to your questions :
- MDaemon 24.0.2- Webmail managed internally by Mdaemon
- WordClient theme
- Only some users
- I've only had problems with parameters mentioned above
- Modifications are saved in the user.ini, which is updated correctly, and no problems have been reported in the browser console.
- No worries about free space on the server disk.

If you open the browser console, CTRL+SHIFT+J in chrome, and go to Options / Personalize, are there any errors logged in the console.
After the user sets the values as preferred and clicks save, please get a copy of the User.ini file from the WC directory and share it with us. If you don't want to post the file you can upload it to https://mdaemon.sharefile.com/r-rc3922c1eed334d4dbf5e34f0bd04ccd6

No errors in the console.

Just to confirm, when you say "unfold mailbox" you are referring to the setting under Options / Personalize for "Collapse my nested folders" correct? And the user wants this option enabled, correct?
Can you also provide a copy of your domains.ini file from the MDaemon\WorldClient directory?
-
No, just the click action to unfold mailbox folders :)

The user.ini file is encoded as a UTF-16 LE BOM file. It needs to be UTF-8. I'm not sure what would have caused the encoding to be changed, nothing in MDaemon uses UTF-16.
The easiest way to fix it is to open the file with Notepad++ and go to the Encoding menu, choose UTF-8, and then save the file.
After you save the file, have the user login and configure everything in the desired manner, have them log out, and then log back in to verify everything is still in the desired state.
Let us know if you are still having issues.

Hello Arron,
that was the problem, by switching the encoding to UTF8 the problem is solved.
I don't see how the encoding of the files could have changed either.Could the fact that we're a French company using MDaemon in French be a cause?
-
Arron Staff
No being a French company using MDaemon in French would not cause the file encoding to change.
-
Okay, I didn't really believe it either.
Looking in other users' folders, I see that some user.ini files are in UTF8, and others in UFT16 LE BOMStrange...
-

I would change them all back to UTF-8, if they get changed to UTF-16 LE BOM again, I'd start investigating futher to see if we can figure out the cause.

I've just changed the encode, which still represents 50% of user accounts.
I'll keep an eye on it and get back to you in the next few days.
Thanks a lot!
