Migrating MDaemon to a new server

Also, is there a standard timing mechanism for deactivation and activation? I want to make sure I have a known path back to Kansas should the operation go South.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you deactivate server1, you should be able to activate server2. if activation fails for any reason, you should get a grace period. And as a backup to the backup, you can always do a clean install request a trial key in the install.

Yes, deactivation should happen immediately.
