incorrect characters in email address

  • Hello,

Lately, I have been receiving more and more spam from an email address like the following Sender= Don=txt2create.com@lc.txt2create.com

Don=txt2create.com@lc.txt2create.com on behalf of Don Wilson <Don@txt2create.com>

Is there a way to block all emails with an address that contains characters other than “letters, numbers, ., - or _”?

    Thanks for your help.
    Oliver

  • I would use extreme caution when trying to block specific characters in an email address.  Many special characters are allowed in the mailbox portion of the address and some technologies even use special characters such as equal signs in the email address.  You can google to see the full list allowed characters in an email address.

To block a specific character from being included in the mailbox portion of the address you can add an entry to the address block list.  For example, if you wanted to block the equal sign (which we do NOT reccomend you do) you would use an entry like this:

    *=*@*.*

Again, it is not a good idea to block mail from values that use the equal sign.

To help with spam, there are a number of features in the software that should help without having to block messages based on a character in the address.

If you are interested in exploring the options, please post an inbound SMTP log snippet that shows a spam being received so we can get a better idea of what features are currently being used.
