538 5.7.11 An SSL connection is required

  • Hello,

we've got an old software which has no SSL/TLS possibility. It seems to use "smtp.cpp"
and we haven't even found out to make it use any other port than 25.

Is it still possible to allow this software to post via MDaemon (smtp)?
Is there a manual what to look after (trusted IP, etc.)?
Or is there a small relaying software which accepts the smtp from our "SSL-free"-software
and forwards it *with SSL* to MDaemon?

    Best regards

    Klaus-Peter

  • Is the old software trying to authenticate when it gets the error?  If it is, you can configure MDaemon to accept plain text passwords by going to Setup / Server Settings / Servers, check the box for "Allow plain text passwords"

Another option if the old software supports it would be to enable CRAM-MD5 authentication, however, this only works if MDaemon knows the password.  So to use CRAM-MD5, the account cannot be using Active Directory Authentication and it cannot be storing the password using non-reversible encryption.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but I feel obligated to at least mention it. The best option, would be to upgrade the old software to something that does support SSL.  There are likely very good reasons to not upgrade, or you would have already done it.

If you are still having issues, please let us know the specific version of MDaemon that you are using and post the entire inbound session where the error occurs so we can see what is happening.
