Mailing List Manager - Unknown User error


  • I am hitting a roadblock in sending to an email list.

    I'm guessing this is something trivial, but I am just NOT seeing it.

    I create an Email list and load with members.

    Send an email to the listserv and it bounces Unknown Local User.

    Test email lists work just fine.  I'm missing something obvious.

    What is the domain of the list?  When creating a new list, the domain is set to the default domain automatically.  So its very easy to create the list on the default domain instead of the desired domain.  You can check this in Remote Administration by going to Main / Mailing List Manager, you should be able to tell at this point if the domain is correct.  To change it Select the list / Edit / Settings, select the desired domain from the drop down list.

    If that is not the issue, check the mailbox portion of the list address to make sure it is correct. 

    Check to make sure the sender is a member of the list with POST or NORMAL access.

    Check to make sure the content filter isn't applying any rules to the message. 

    Recipient OK, but Unknown Local User???? 

    MDaemon can be configured to accept the message during the SMTP session even if the RCPT TO value is invalid and then follow the configurations for unknown users.
