Restrict email access from only specific IP addresses

  • Hi,

Is there a way to limit SMTP and IMAP access for an email account to only a specific IP address?

Our goal is to restrict access to certain email accounts so they can only be accessed from specific IP addresses. Currently, these email accounts are in another building from the MDaemon server.

    Thank you!

  • Yes, in the mail services section of the account configurations you can restrict access for IMAP and SMTP to LAN IPS.

  • Hi Arron,

Does it matter if the users are in a different location? Can I add the public IP address of that building?

    Thanks!

  • When you add an IP address to the LAN IP list, it will be treated as a LAN IP.  In some cases this will allow connections from that IP to bypass security features.  For example, HiJack detection has a setting to treat LAN IPs as local IP addresses.  As long as you trust the traffic coming from the IP address, it should not cause an issue.

It does not matter if the users are in a different location, it just matters what IP address the the connection is coming from.

  • Well, okay, but, what, if i need for one or two personal mailboxes make a restrictions by my white list of  one range or same IP's?

I mean: user - kevin, can connect to his mailbox only if he is at homenetwork or  office dhcp range, if he is not (maybe he trying to connect from sub-office) he will not connect, becose we make this restrictions.

  • I'm not sure I understand the question.  Are you wanting to configure an IP allow and block list per user account?  If you are, MDaemon does not allow you to configure IP block and allow lists per user account.

If you are asking something else, please explain further.
