IP change for new MDaemon Server

  • I saw on a knowledge base document that IP needs to change in 3 different files. However, when I open those files, only one has IP in them. I only see IP on Domains.dat but not on other files.

Is this dependent on how and what services are used?

    Thank you.

  • Which knowledge base article are you looking at?

Sorry. This is the Knowledge base I was looking at.

  • I would advise you to change the IP address using the UI (Setup | Domain Manager | Select the Domain | Host Name & IP).  Making the change via the UI will update all the necessary configuration files.

If you'd rather do it in files, the gateways.dat file may need to be updated if you have gateways, if your old IP is not listed, you don't need to update it.

In the MDaemon.ini file look for the DomainIP key in the [Domain] section.

In the Domains.dat file look for the IP and IP6 keys in the [$DOMAIN$] section, where $DOMAIN$ is the domain name configured in MDaemon.

  • Thank you for your reply.

One more question, Could I stop MDaemon service from Window side, instead of removing inside of MDaemon settings?

I'm not sure if removing from inside MDaemon setting would delete service or stop service.

Just in case we need to revert back to old server.

Oh, this was from same knowledge base for moving license.

    Thank you.

  • When you click the Remove Service button in the MDaemon UI, it removes the Windows service for Mdaemon.  We highly reccomend that you remove the service to avoid licensing issues.  If you need to revert to the old machine after the service has been removed, just start MDaemon by double clicking on MDaemon\app\mdaemon.exe, and go back to the same dialog (Setup | Preferences | Windows Service) and click the Install Service button. Close the MDaemon UI, which will stop MDaemon.exe, and then start the Windows Service for MDaemon.

  • Thank you!
