User folder named “MDaemon”

  • Hi,

Following a main domain migration, I have a folder called “MDaemon” in my old domain folder: D:\MDaemon\Users\**old_domain**\MDaemon.

What is the purpose of this folder?

  • It is the mailbox folder of the MDaemon system account.  Any messages sent to mdaemon@$YOURDOMAIN$ are put into this folder and then processed.  The main function is to allow users to manage their mailing list subscriptions.

  • Thank you,

how do I migrate it to my new domain?

  • Before you do anything, first make a backup of the MDaemon\App\userlist.dat file.

Then edit the file with your favorite text editor, find the line for the MDaemon Server account.

The line should look similar to this:

    arron.test.com MDaemon MDaemon Server C:\MDaemon\Users\arron.test.com\MDaemon\ \\<SECURE> NNNNYNNNNN0000000000

(This is not shown correctly for me, its wrapping when it should not be.  The entire entry should be on the same line.)

Delete the entire line, if its in the middle of the file, do not leave a blank line. Then save the file and restart MDaemon.   MDaemon will recreate the account using the default domain.  After restarting make sure all of your accounts are loading correctly by opening the account manager.  If the accounts are all shown, then its working properly.  If accounts are not loading properly, stop MDaemon, restore the backup of the userlist.dat file and restart MDaemon.

  • Thank you, I'll do that and keep you in touch.
