Email Account Integration with AI

  • Hello everyone

User asked me today if he can "integrate" ChatGPT with his work email account. He would like to use it as a, let's say, search/reading aid and reply assistant.
Strictly technically speaking, as far as I can see, user has to give his username/password and, by doing that, allow full access to his mailbox. From AI side you can (apparently) configure/reduce access level.
Is there currently any way to do this without giving AI full access to the users mailbox?
Also, not really sure how would that integration work with our MDaemon w Outlook/MDaemon connector setup. I guess, user would still have to use web browser for interaction with AI, which already has complete insight in his correspondence?
Anyone here has tried or implemented something like this?

    Regards

Built-in option (recommended): MDaemon Webmail already has AI message tools: summarize, translate, suggest a reply and proofread. The AI only gets the message the user clicks on, never the mailbox or his password. The admin controls it, and it’s off by default per domain. It can’t search across the whole mailbox, though.

ChatGPT: Its mail connectors are for Gmail and Microsoft 365, not IMAP. Connecting MDaemon would take a custom IMAP connector, and an IMAP login can read every folder no matter what access level the AI side says it uses. If you go that way anyway:

    • Use an App Password rather than his real password, so you can revoke it on its own.
    • Or set up a separate account with read-only access to a single shared folder, and put only the mail he wants the AI to see in that folder. That’s the only setup that actually limits what it can reach.
