Outbreak Protection Timeout

  • Hi,

Anyone have a clue as to why suddenly Outbreak protection would timeout?

Error in log: Outbreak Protection Error: CURL error: Connection timed out after 10000 milliseconds

    Rebooted Mdaemon server & Service.
Temporarily disabled Outbreak Protection but still getting the same Connection timed out.

  • Are you still having the issue?

When you ping files.mdaemon.com, what IP address is returned?

Is your firewall blocking the traffic on port 80?

Please post a log snippet that shows the error occurring.

If outbreak protection is disabled, it shouldn't still be causing a winsock error for new sessions.  If there are still sessions active from before Outbreak Protection was disabled, they will still attempt to query the Outbreak Protection service, but new inbound sessions should not.

  • @Arron
    Pinged files.mdaemon.com.

Pinging 1176448701.rsc.cdn77.org [169.150.246.48] with 32 bytes of data:

  • I'm sorry, I asked you to ping the wrong host name.

Can you ping resolver1-mdaemon.ctmail.com and post the results?

  • @Arron pinged from our network and from mobile data/separate network getting both the same response.

Pinging resolver.1.geo.ctmail.com [216.163.190.11] with 32 bytes of data:
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 216.163.190.11:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

  • In a powershell command prompt if you run the following command what do you get back?

    Test-NetConnection 216.163.190.11 -Port 80

Do you have a proxy server configured in MDaemon?  You can find it in remote administration by going to Setup | Server Settings | Proxy Settings.

Is your proxy or firewall blocking the outbound connections on port 80?

  • Hi @Arron ,

    Please find screenshot attached.

Seems the Test Connection working. but the ping doesnt.

  • Hi @Arron ,

Also don't have proxy enabled on the Mdaemon.

  • It is common for ICMP packets, the packets used by the PING, to be blocked, which causes the request timed out responses.

Restart the MDaemon server, after the restart find the first inbound session that attempted to use Outbreak Protection.  Post the log snippet of the Outbreak Protection processing.

Are there any errors in MDaemon's system log about Outbreak Protection or AntiVirus?
