Can't subscribe/unsubscribe to Public Folders

  • No matter what I do my users cannot subscribe or unsubscribe to Public Folders - using either Outlook or Webmail makes no difference.

    It seems as soon as the folder is created using Public Folder Manager, it appears in their IMAP folder list (whether they want it or not) and they can select or unselect IMAP Folders to their hearts content and it is simply ignored.

    Using MD Server v25.0.0.  Any ideas??

  • In Outlook, are your users using IMAP or MDaemon Connector?

    In Webmail, under Settings | Folders | Display Settings is the option "Hide Unsubscribed Folders" enabled?

  • IMAP.  "Hide Unsubscribed Folders" was it - thanks heaps!!

    It would be nice if there could be some way to set this by default - after all, what's the point in "subscribing" otherwise??  Anyways, thanks for your help.

  • Thanks, Leigh.  That was it!

    It appears that "Hide Unsubscribed Folders" is disabled by default, making Subscribe/Unsubscribe a little pointless for new users and flooding them with the entire folder list (gigabytes of data) when they first connect.  Is ther eany way to set this by default?

  • On the server, use Windows Explorer and navigate to the \MDaemon\WorldClient directory. Open the Domains.ini file in a text editor and search for HideUnsubscribedFolders=No.  Change it to HideUnsubscribedFolders=Yes.  This will enable the option for any new account that logs into webmail or for accounts that have not yet set the option in their own personal Webmail preferences.

    If you want to overrride this option and force all global/per-domain users to have this enabled, search for [Default:UserOverrides] in the same Domains.ini file.  Enter the following if you would like to override all MDaemon user settings and force this option to be enabled.

    [Default:UserOverrides]
    HideUnsubscribedFolders=Yes

    This can also be done per-domain as well.  If one of your MDaemon domains is company.test, you'll see [company.test:UserOverrides] in the Domains.ini file.  The entry would look like the following.

    [company.test:UserOverrides]
    HideUnsubscribedFolders=Yes

    See the article below to speicifically target known performance heavy options (including this one) to increase Webmail performance. You can override just about any Webmail setting found in the Domains.ini.
